SALT ON THE WAVES ...

Hey Friends,

Thanks for all your messages I’ve been receiving on facebook.

I am having a lot of fun here on the Carnival Breeze. We are anxiously awaiting the release of #SALT on #iTunes… and I’m so excited about the feedback I’ve been receiving from those who have listened to the teasers. The Album should be released sometime this week. Pop onto my Facebook page for the links - let me know what you think :-) …

Thanks for all your support and wishes,

Lots of Love (from somewhere between Mexico & Miami)

x Selkie

STONE STUDIOS MEDIA RELEASE

IN today’s plastic, auto tuned world Selkie stands out like a beacon of light above the MTV masses, creating music meant to touch the heart and soul. The husky-voiced singer-songwriter has a soul as old the oceans and an uncanny song-writing ability that is sure to raise even the most limp of hairs.

Selkie (AKA Jess Yallup) first made waves in the music community in 2010, winning many South African hearts with her honest performances as she placed 7th in the 6th season of Idols South Africa. Following her success on Idols, Selkie returned to the water becoming the first South African singer/guitarist to be placed with Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise line company.

Selkie’s talents have not gone unnoticed and have secured her numerous performance contracts over the last five years in the Middle East, Seychelles and across West Africa.

In 2012 Selkie recorded her first single ‘Your Eyes’, produced by Stuart Epps (Robbie Williams, Oasis), which won her the SingerUniverse competition in June 2012. The competition is run and judged by Dale Kawashima, a leading A&R consultant and music publisher, who has represented the music of Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson and Bob Dylan, amongst others.

Aiming to take her career those few steps further Selkie signed a record deal with Stone Studios International in January 2014.

Selkie is currently nearing completion of recording her debut full-length album Salt alongside producer Rudi Massyn (Kinky Robot, Van Smith, Joe F). The album features 12 tracks, all penned by the soulful singer herself, that cover a vast expanse of varying genres and moods, whilst retaining a consistently emotional folk-infused sound unlike anything the South African commercial scene has produced.

Selkie’s hauntingly beautiful voice and considerable song-writing skills will soon be pervading the international market and airwaves, with Salt being scheduled for release in Q2 2014.

Selkie on Salt :

Salt is an album that has been a long time in the making. The material was written over the last six years, largely while I was out on the open ocean. The sound on the album draws a lot from my Celtic heritage but also from being out at sea. The name Salt refers to the impact being out on the ocean had on me but at the same time refers the salt of the earth – I’m trying to give the world an unpretentious representation of who I am.

Selkie Album Update.

We’ve been baking up a storm here in Johannesburg. And by baking - I’m referring to the production/creation of my debut LP of course. The Kitchen has been Stone Studios Intl - The Chief, Rudi Massyn - and I hold the recipes & my large magic spoon. This will be an assortment of treats for your ears.

We’re pretty much done with the foundation of the cakes - Preproduction phase complete. We now have to ice them up & get onto the yummy stuff. Layering them with hundreds and thousands here and choc chips there - adding the cherries on top… a squeeze of lemon perhaps… some peppermint … maybe a little vanilla … love… tears… a pinch of sea salt…

We’ll be saying ‘Bon Appetit’ in no time.

Forever grateful for your support.
